Hello—I’m

Punit Arora, PhD

I am a strategic management expert at the City University of New York. My research focuses on the business-society relationship, sustainability, diversity, corporate governance, social issues in management, and entrepreneurship. My work has appeared in leading journals such as Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Ethics, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Global Strategy Journal, and Business & Society.

My dissertation on corporate bankruptcy was a runner-up for the Wiley-Blackwell Outstanding Dissertation in Business Policy and Strategy Award at the 2012 Academy of Management. My research has received best paper awards at conferences like the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business, the European Academy of Management, and the International Corporate Governance Society. I am Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Business & Society” and Chair of the Social Issues in Management Division.

I started my career in finance before a stint as a senior administrator with the prestigious Indian Civil Service. Since then,I have advised business, government, and international organizations on strategic management and policy-related issues in over 50 countries.  

What I work on

My work focuses on how strategy is shaped by institutions, ideologies, governance systems, and technological changes. These include topics such as Business-Society Compact, Board Leadership and Dynamics, Top Management Teams, Sustainability, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
